By being aware of what is going on around us and converting outrage into action we can bring about meaningful change. September 8th - Rise for Climate, Jobs, & Justice 

September 8th will be a moving demonstration of the breadth and depth of the climate movement. Across the country, tens of thousands of people will show our power by hitting the streets, holding community forums, and educating voters about the issues – all to ensure that elected and private sector leaders make action on climate a priority.

US Supreme Court Rules Youth v Gov trial will begin on October 29th 

It appears the US federal government has exhausted every tool in its toolbox to prevent the Juliana v. U.S. trial --- commonly referred to as Youth v Gov --- from happening, without success. After three years of attempts by the government to delay and dismiss the trial, the US Supreme Court unanimously ruled on July 30, 2018, that the 21 youth plaintiffs deserved their day in court for their constitutional climate lawsuit, and preserved the scheduled trial start date of October 29th.  

EDUCATION

UUA Common Read, "Justice on Earth: People of Faith Working at the Intersections of Race, Class, and the Environment"

Fourteen UU ministers and lay leaders examine the environmental crisis, showing how systems of oppression active in our country today (such as capitalism, white supremacy, and patriarchy) contribute to ecological devastation. Climate change, racism, classism (and other systems of oppression) affect marginalized communities in disproportionate ways. "Justice on Earth," brings these problems to light and encourages us to work with these intersections. The book also explores how spiritual practices, congregational organizing, and progressive theology can inform faith-based justice work in the twenty-first century. Revealing new approaches and opportunities for more holistic, accountable, and connected justice efforts. Each essay is accompanied by suggested ways to take the next steps for further learning and action.

Environmental Justice Practitioners Network (EJPN) 2018-19 Season

EJPN is a community of practice for Unitarian Universalist environmental and climate justice leaders. Through monthly webinars, we engage in reflection and education and deepen our faith grounding for environmental justice. Together we witness essential models and build skills for partnering with people in frontline communities.
