Dear friend,

Thirteen years ago in 2006, UUs did the difficult task of crafting a Statement of Conscience on Global Warming and the Threat of Climate Change. What a wonderful experience for my first UUA General Assembly to see the Statement molded by the energy and concern of so many people. UUMFE was there to lead the crafting of words, encourage attendees to see the newly-released film ‘Inconvenient Truth’ and to offer the opportunity for folks to donate to the fledgling non-profit CarbonFund to offset the impact of travel to St. Lous.

Now, in 2019, we are lifting up all of life impacted by climate change and policies that are related to living unsustainably.  You are invited to join us on the road with activities planned for June, July, August, and September (stay tuned for details). Watch parties, local trainings, and public witness are also encouraged. Become part of the action to catalyze an impactful movement for UUs and beyond.

Organize a Local Event to Support the June 4 Juliana v. US Hearing

The constitutional youth climate lawsuit, Juliana v. United States, will be heard before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in Portland, Oregon on June 4th, 2019. Our Children’s Trust is calling people to organize events locally and encourages you to mobilize on the day of the hearing to host watch parties of the live stream of the arguments and to hold marches in support.

EJPN Webinar – A Conversation with Dina Gilio-Whitaker

Join us for the final EJPN Webinar of the season on May 23rd for a conversation with Dina Gilio-Whitaker, Indigenous scholar and Beacon Press author. We will discuss her new book, As Long As Grass Grows: The Indigenous Fight for Environmental Justice, from Colonization to Standing Rock, Dina Gilio-Whitaker (Colville Confederated Tribes) is a lecturer of American Indian Studies at California State University San Marcos, and a consultant and educator in environmental justice policy planning. Her research interests focus on Indigenous nationalism, self-determination, environmental justice, and education. She is also co-author with Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz of All the Real Indians Died Off, And 20 Other Myths About Native Americans.

Invite your congregation into the Procession of Species for World Biodiversity Day (May 22nd)! Inspired by our Seventh Principle, our global biodiversity crisis, and the "Procession of the Species" tradition in Washington State, UU Ministry for Earth is organizing a Procession of Species at General Assembly 2019 and hoping for an even bigger one at GA 2020. Get your congregation involved!

Meet me at The Mountain, Aug 4-9, 2019

Join Ally at the "Climate Justice: Extending Our Reach" retreat at the Mountain Retreat and Learning Center, Highlands, North Carolina. The conference presents information about factors that have shaped the human impacts on climate change.  These climate changes are directly related to injustices, resulting from the intersection of race, class, and environment. Workshops will include Climate Change in Relation to Justice, Action and Hope; Unitarian Universalists Unite to Create Climate Justice; Climate Change: Science and Impacts; and many others.
