UU Ministry for Earth

Dear friend,

UU Ministry for Earth is thrilled to announce that Rev. Cindy Davidson has recently accepted the role of UUMFE Board Chair for a two-year term.

Please read the full message from Cindy here. Below is an excerpt:

As the climate crisis escalates and it looks to the world like we are shirking our responsibilities, we at UUMFE affirm that we are still in. We are still in … facilitating and supporting bold, accountable faith-grounded actions from the personal and congregational to the denominational. We are still in … aligning our work with environmental justice principles and the needs, demands and leadership of those most impacted by the climate crisis. We are still in … following life-affirming anti-racist principles and forward-looking, dynamic governance practices. To grow our collective climate justice organizing capacity demands nothing less.

Rev. Cindy Davidson
Board Chair

Your help is needed! The US State Department just released a draft of its most recent study on the Keystone XL pipeline, and this is your last chance to give a public comment on KXL! All comments must be submitted by November 18th, 2019 (as of today only 400 letters have been sent).

INSPIRATION

Unitarian Universalists and the Extinction Rebellion

UUs across the country are joining or starting local chapters of Extinction Rebellion. Aly Tharp, program director for UUMFE, has been working with organizers of XR in the UK since last spring and in April was arrested in an XR action in Austin, Texas, protesting Chase Bank’s continued support of fossil fuel extraction. The December issue of UU World writes about UU engagement in Extinction Rebellion and features both Aly and UUMFE Board Member Leonard Higgins.

Join the Upcoming Climate Strikes

On November 29 and December 6, young people across the US are leading a #ClimateStrike for action on the climate crisis, the biggest threat to our future.

Building on the momentum of the largest youth-led mobilization in US history back in September, global society remains at a crossroads: will we choose money and greed, or the future of humanity? These strikes are another opportunity to say that you choose us, the kids.
